Saint Mary Magdalene was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and is one of the most prominent women in the New Testament. She is often referred to as "Mary of Magdala" because she came from the town of Magdala, located on the shores of the Sea of Galilee. Mary Magdalene is believed to have been a woman from whom Jesus cast out seven demons, after which she became one of His closest disciples. She was present at many significant moments in Jesus’ life, including His crucifixion, burial, and resurrection. Mary Magdalene was the first person to witness and report the resurrection of Jesus, earning her the title "Apostle to the Apostles."

 Mary is venerated as a saint in many Christian denominations, her feast day is celebrated on July 22nd. In 2016, Pope Francis elevated her feast day to a "liturgical feast" in recognition of her important role in the early Church.
